VCSO Releases Video Of Deadly Head-On Crash

Osteen, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office release body-camera footage of a deadly late-night head-on collision.

That crash happened around 11:00 last night (June 19th), after 21-year-old Freddy Pleas fled from a Volusia County deputy who was conducting a traffic stop.

Please, along with his male passenger, whose identity is still not released, died as a result of that crash. That crash also injured 31-year-old James Marshal, who is still at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford.

Along with the video, VCSO also released more information regarding the crash.

According to the report sent from the Sheriff's Office, the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Pleas, who was caught doing 88 mph in a 45 mph zone.

After turning on his lights, Pleas took off at an estimated speed of 100 mph as he drove north down the southbound lanes of State Road 415.

When he saw Pleas in the oncoming lane, he slowed down and deactivated his emergency lights, before notifying dispatch of the fleeing vehicle.

But, as the deputy continued north, he saw a cloud of smoke and discovered that Pleas had crashed into a vehicle head-on.

Deputies and fire fighters worked to rescue all involved in the crash, but the two occupants of the fleeing vehicle did not survive.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
