Flagler Beach, FL - After extensive damage was done by Hurricane Matthew on a 1.3 mile stretch of A1A in Flagler Beach, work has finally begun on a temporary fix to open the road to traffic and the Florida Department of Transportation will be holding an open house to answer any questions on the project.
On October 20, Governor Rick Scott told FDOT to expedite the restoration of 2-way traffic on the damaged portion of A1A so the community could get back to work as quickly and as safely as possible. Since then, FDOT has announced Halifax Paving, Inc. as the contractor for the project. The firm was 1 of 5 invited to bid, and their winning bid was about $3.95 million. The timetable for completion is 45 days and incentives are in place to get the project done as quickly as possible.The goal is to reopen A1A to 2-way traffic with temporary lanes. Work began on Monday, October 24. The project covers a 1.3 mile stretch of the road, from S 9th St to S 22nd St.
"As the dump trucks and all the construction equipment starts moving into that area, people are going to have questions," said Steve Olson, Public Information Officer for FDOT. "We have an open house scheduled on Wednesday so that residents and other interested folks can stop by and learn what we're doing, what we plan to do, and how quickly we plan to do it."
The open house will be held from 2:30 to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, October 26, at the Flagler Beach City Hall at 105 S Second St in Flagler Beach.
