Deltona, FL-Deputies say a woman posing as a local circuit court judge was able to scam her Deltona neighbor out of thousands of dollars. VCSO spokesman Andrew Gant says 43-year-old Angelique Cribb is in custody after an arrest warrant was signed by the judge she was allegedly impersonating in a series of text messages to her neighbor. Deputies say the victim, 65-year-old Helen Helgestad, came to the Sheriff's Office last month to report the scam. She told investigators she had loaned Cribb and another neighbor around $308,000. She said when she refused to loan them any more money, Cribb started breaking things in the victim's home. Then, the victim told deputies, the threatening text messages began. They referenced Judge James R. Clayton, Judge Raul Zambrano and Judge Dawn Nichols. Cribb claimed she was working with Judge Nichols on a large lottery payout and needed thousands of dollars to make it happen. Cribb also told the victim she had been meeting with Judge Clayton and there was a warrant out for the arrest of the victim's daughter. The texts threatened consequences if more money wasn't forthcoming. Investigators found more than a thousand text messages between the suspect and victim from May to July. Cribb was in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $10,000 bond.
