DBPD: Woman Broke Into 2 Vehicles At Volusia Mall

Daytona Beach, FL - A 47-year-old DeLand woman ends up behind bars after police say she was caught on cell phone video breaking into at least two vehicles at Volusia Mall.

Michelle M. Rocco also told the Daytona Beach Police Department that her two children - both minors - were waiting for her inside the mall at the time of her arrest yesterday (August 7th) afternoon, according to DBPD spokesperson Lyda Longa.

"An officer retrieved the kids inside the mall and called an older sibling to pick them up," Longa added.

First responders found Rocco hiding behind her vehicle after a woman called 911 just after 4 o'clock that day. She told dispatchers that she and a man were at the mall when they spotted a woman trying to open doors of vehicles in the parking lot.

According to the arrest report, the man took out his cell phone and recorded the woman - identified by DBPD as Rocco - going into a white Toyota 4-door and a green Honda 2-door, then approached her and said he had her on video. That's when she got "aggressive" and yelled at the man to stop recording her, per the report.

The report also shows a third witness telling DBPD Rocco asked him to "hurry up" and help her jump start her vehicle so she could leave the scene before police arrived.

The owner of the Toyota refused to press charges after officers found a gold and black bag in the front seat of Rocco's vehicle which had been taken from the trunk of the Toyota, but the owner of the Honda did request that, per DBPD.

Nothing appeared stolen from the Honda, but items which were in the glove box and center console were found "tossed" on the floor, according to the owner.

When questioned, Rocco told police that she had been looking for her kids and that she had been opening car doors in the hopes that she could find something to jump start her car.

As of this afternoon, Rocco is held on $2,500 bond on two felony counts of vehicular burglary and one misdemeanor count of loitering and prowling.
