DeLand, FL - A woman adds an additional charge to her driving under the influence arrest after saying the Ku Klux Klan would get the black deputy that placed her in handcuffs.
Right before midnight last Thursday (February 7th), a deputy with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office was sent out to a residence off South Montgomery Street in DeLand in reference to a disturbance.
Upon arriving at the residence, the deputy found 53-year-old Julie Edwards reversing into the residence.
After making contact with Edwards, the deputy quickly noticed the smell of alcohol coming from Edward's breath, as well as slurred speech, per the arrest report.
Edwards tried multiple times to walk away from the deputy. As she did, the deputy also noticed that she seemed to be uneasy on her feet, stumbling as she tried to walk away.
The deputy then asked Edwards if she would consent to a field sobriety test, which she turned down.
After turning down the sobriety test a couple of more times, the deputy placed Edwards under arrest for DUI. She also tried multiple times to walk away from the deputy while in handcuffs, per the report.
VCSO noted that Edwards had a prior refusal to submit from a prior DUI back in 2011.
As the deputy was completing paperwork, Edwards advised she hoped to find him along in a corner or she'll find someone to find him, according to the arrest report.
She then advised the deputy that the Ku Klux Klan would be "seeing him" and that they would burn crosses on his property and that "(EXPLETIVE) should have never been let out of slavery."
