Volusia County, FL - Volusia County has announced that beginning Thursday, October 5, Votran will provide free shuttle service to the Disaster Food Assistance site at the Volusia County Fairgrounds.

Service will run between 7 AM and 5 PM on Thursday, October 5, through Saturday, October 7. Service will run from the transfer plaza on Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. and Palmetto Ave. in Daytona Beach, and the Amelia super stop on Amelia Ave. and International Speedway Blvd. in DeLand. On Saturday, October 8, service will run from the beachside intermodal transfer facility, which is located on the bottom floor of the Ocean Center parking garage in Daytona Beach. Paratransit buses will be used for shuttle service. Officials say they will have signage on the front windshield and side window.

The last bus to the fairgrounds will leave at 4 PM and the last bus leaving the fairgrounds will depart at 5 PM on each of the abovementioned service days. Officials say the Food for Florida process could take longer than an hour, so they recommend that residents get to the fairgrounds early. No fares will be charged for shuttle service to and from the Volusia County Fairgrounds.

The Disaster Food Assistance is being offered by the Florida Department of Children and Families from 7 AM to 6 PM October 4-8 at the Volusia County Fairgrounds, located at 3150 W. New York Ave. in DeLand. People are being encouraged to apply for the assistance at least a day before going to the site. An online application is available on the Food for Florida website, MyFLFamilies.com/FFF. Applicants should bring a valid FL driver license or other form of ID.
