Votran Bus Riders In Daytona To Expect Delays As Shriner Events Start This Weekend

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - As the Shriners International 2017 Imperial Session hits Ocean Center in Daytona Beach this weekend, Votran bus riders should be prepared for delays, interruptions, and route changes. The Shriners' events at Ocean Center will take place from July 8-13, beginning with the Shriners Marketplace on Saturday. “It’s a great opportunity for Daytona Beach to be the host city for an international event that is so popular,” Steve Sherrer, Votran general manager says. “Buses will be rerouted to secondary roads when traffic becomes congested. Votran will be doing the best we can to maintain timely service for our customers, but we are sure that congestion related to the events will cause challenges for service to beachside destinations." During the week of Shriner events, detours are subject to change. All riders, including Votran Gold riders, traveling towards the beach will experience longer than normal trips, and from July 9-13, Votran vehicles will not use the Intermodal Transit Facility at the Ocean Center. Below is a list of route changes:
  • Routes 1, 18 and 19 will make service stops on A1A.
  • Route 8 will make service stops on Halifax Ave.
  • Route 18 inbound, from A1A, will use Seabreeze Blvd. to Mason Ave. and U.S. 1 to the Votran Transfer Plaza.
Below is what you need to know for night and Sunday Votran service, which will operate from the Transfer Plaza:
  • Route 1 will use International Speedway Blvd. to A1A.
  • Routes 3, 4 and 10 will use Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd., Beach St. and Michigan St. to Fairview Ave. outbound and inbound.
  • Route 17 will use International Speedway Blvd. to A1A. The route will end at Raymond Ave. and South Atlantic. There will be no service on the Dunlawton Bridge.
On July 11, the Shriners Parade begins at 3 PM. Be prepared for heavy congestion along A1A from Sun Splash Park to Ocean Center. Votran will not be able to serve any bus stops on A1A between Silver Beach Ave. and Seabreeze Blvd. beginning at 3 PM.
  • Routes 1, 18, 19, and the Route 1N night service will use North Peninsula Dr. northbound via Seabreeze Blvd. and southbound via Oakridge Blvd.
  • Routes 17A, 17B and 17N night service will use South Peninsula Dr. northbound and southbound from Silver Beach Ave.
