Volusia Transgender Student Sues School Board, Alleges Discrimination

Posted

Volusia County, FL – A new lawsuit claims the Volusia County School Board discriminated against a 15-year-old transgender high school student by repeatedly stopping him from using male restrooms and locker rooms at school.

According to the lawsuit and plaintiff John Doe, being forced to use single-stall bathrooms and locker rooms caused unnecessary suffering and violated Title IX and the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. The boy has lived as a male since he was 7 and has legally changed his name, undergone surgery, and received hormone therapy.

The lawsuit claims the boy earned poor grades in gym class since he could not use the boy’s locker room, began pulling out his eyelashes as a result of the stress, and limited how much water he drank so he would not have to use the bathroom at school.
