Unemployment Creeps Up Slightly In Volusia & Flagler

Daytona Beach, FL - It's not a huge increase, but the local unemployment rate heads in the wrong direction.

The latest Florida Department of Economic Opportunity report shows Volusia County at 3.2% in October, a tenth of a percent higher than the month prior.

It puts the county tied at 25th highest in Florida with five others: Columbia, Jackson, Jefferson, Pasco and Suwannee.

Flagler County's October rate is 3.5%, also a tenth of a percent higher than September. It's tied for 13th in Florida with Gadsden and Hamilton.

FDEO Executive Director Cissy Proctor says the overall statewide trend is still going in the right direction.

"It's really incredible to see the private sector continue to have confidence in our economy, confidence in Florida and our leadership here," Proctor added.

Florida's jobless rate fell in October to 3.0%. It was at 3.1% in September and at 3.9% during October 2017.

Volusia and Flagler's unemployment rates have generally mirrored the statewide trend. In Volusia's case, it was 4.0% the October prior, while Flagler's was 4.2%.

At the metro level, Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach came in at 3.2%, 10th highest in the state.

The national unemployment rate is 3.5%.
