Tallahassee, FL - A Volusia County sheriff's deputy is recognized by the state for his role in saving a Deltona woman's life and that of her three kids nearly two years ago.
Justin Ferrari was one of eight badge-wearers across Florida honored by Attorney General Pam Bondi Wednesday in Tallahassee.
Deputy Ferrari and the others were nominated in 2017 for "Florida Law Enforcement Officer Of The Year", an award which eventually went to Orlando Police Department Lieutenant Scott Smith. He was one of the first who responsed to the Pulse gay nightclub attack in 2016 which left 49 people dead.
In Ferrari's case, he was nominated for a July 2016 incident at the Alameda Drive home of Victoria and Emmanuel Rosado.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Ferrari dragged Victoria to safety from the garage after Emmanuel - her husband - shot her in the leg when she tried to leave him.
Ferrari also helped rescue the kids when they got out through a back door.
Emmanuel was convicted last March for that crime and sentenced to life in prison earlier this week.
