Deltona, FL - Volusia County deputies with the help of Air One track down two shoplifters who stole around $2,500 worth of merchandise. Early yesterday morning around three o'clock (November 18th), a deputy with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office responded to the Walmart on 101 Howland Boulevard in reference to a strong arm robbery. When the deputy arrived he made contact with one of the employees who said two black males, later identified as Norris Mincey II (Left) and Anthony McFadden (Right), running to the door of the store with two bags of merchandise. She also told the deputy that she stood in their path to stop them when Mincey swung one of the bags at her and hit her in the head. VCSO later found out that Mincey and McFadden had obtained clothing, a backpack and a store shopping cart before going behind the unattended tobacco counter, filling the bags with cigarettes. The deputy would make contact with another employee at the Walmart who said they watched the suspects flee in a vehicle, described as a small Honda style car, which fled south on State Road 415. Later on in the day, the same deputy was traveling eastbound on Doyle Road when he noticed a gray car, matching the description given at Walmart, speeding westbound down the road. The deputy would turn around and begin to follow the vehicle, which was then identified as a gray Kia Optima. After the deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop, the Kia took off. Soon, the vehicle would head westbound on DeBary Road towards Deltona Boulevard. Another deputy then advised the other deputy that he had deployed a stop stick on the westbound I-4 on-ramp to Sanford. The Kia would then hit the stop stick, disabling it. Deputies observed as one black male in a gray sweatshirt bailed from the vehicle and jumped into a lake next to the vehicle. As additional units arrived, deputies found more occupants in the vehicle. One of them observed a female in the driver seat of the vehicle, later identified as 19-year-old Joterra Iles, and a male in the front seat who was identified as McFadden. Iles told deputies that she was an Uber driver and she only fled from deputies because the suspects told her to. It wouldn't be long before VCSO called for the help of a K-9 officer with the DeLand Police Department and Air One.
As Air One searched the area, they found multiple heat signatures in the area around the car, which turned out to be animals and not any suspects. However, it wouldn't be long before the K-9 unit found another suspect, later identified as a 17-year-old male. Air One would then find McFadden not too long after. Mincey and McFadden would be charged with robbery and grand theft with Mincey receiving an additional charge of battery. Iles would also be charged with feeling and attempting to elude law enforcement while the 17-year-old was charged with resisting an officer without violence.
