Posted

Volusia County, FL - The Volusia County Sheriffs Office (VCSO) is asking for the public's feedback as an independent accreditation team comes to town at the end of this month to examine its policies, procedures, management, and operations.

On Monday, July 31 from 2-4 PM, the independent Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), is inviting the public and agency employees to provide comments on the Sheriff’s Office’s ability to comply with Commission standards by calling 386-822-5796 as part of the on-site assessment.

Then, there will be a public information session at 6PM the same day, for anyone who would like to make their comments in person, on the second floor of the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave. in DeLand. All comments will be taken by the assessment team, but phone comments and public appearances are limited to ten minutes and must be about the Sheriff’s Office's ability to comply with CALEA standards.

CALEA standards are available for public inspection at the Sheriff's Office on the fourth floor of the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center. You can also call Sandy Shields or B.J. Rossetti at the Sheriff’s Office, Professional Standards Section at 386-736-5961.

The Sheriff’s Office has been internationally accredited since 1991. If you wish to submit written comments about the agency’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation, send comments to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320 Gainesville, VA 20155.
