Volusia County Beach Safety & FWC Officials Rescue Live Beached Manatee In NSB

New Smyrna Beach, FL - Volusia County Beach Safety and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) recently rescued a female juvenile manatee found washed up on the beach in New Smyrna.

At around 7:30 AM on Monday, Volusia County Beach Safety officials found the manatee near the 6200 Block of S. Atlantic Ave. The manatee was approximately 6 feet in length and very skinny.

Volusia County Beach Safety responded to the incident until the FWC arrived. The FWC and Sea to Shore rescuers took in the manatee for treatment at Sea World. At this time, there is no update on the manatee’s condition, however, Volusia County Beach Safety said the manatee did not appear to have any obvious injuries.
