DeLand, FL - The victim of a shooting near DeLand has asked detectives not to pursue charges against whoever shot him on the 4th of July.

That's the word from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office following last night's incident near the intersection of West Carroll Avenue and Florida Avenue.

VCSO spokesman Andrew Gant says detectives were called to Florida Hospital DeLand just before 8 p.m. for a man with a minor gunshot wound.

"The victim stated he was shot in front of 200 Carroll Avenue by an unknown male after a verbal altercation," Gant noted. "[The victim] stated he does not know the identity of the shooter."

Where on his body he was shot isn't clear at this point, but he left the hospital soon after arrival, telling VCSO he only wanted treatment, per Gant.

"[The victim] does not wish to pursue criminal charges," Gant added. "He signed a termination of investigation form."

WNDB is not identifying the victim since he's not facing criminal charges.

No other details have been released by authorities on who the shooter might've been, where the shooter may have fled to or what led to the shooting.
