Volusia County, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has scheduled 2 DUI saturation patrols for this month.

The first saturation patrol is April 15-16, and the second is April 29-30. "These are stepped up enforcement efforts that are part of an ongoing program to improve road safety and reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by impaired drivers," said Gary Davidson, VCSO Public Information Officer.

These patrols are done throughout the year and include a large number of visible Sheriff's and traffic units, and they target specific areas in the county where there have been traffic issues in the past.

According to Davidson, VCSO announces these patrols in advance because they want people to be aware and "hopefully they'll take heed and be responsible and not drink and drive." Davidson hopes that people will use a designated driver if they are going out someplace where alcohol is going to be involved.

Davidson says a successful DUI saturation patrol results in no violations. "That means that the message has gotten out and the public is complying and driving responsibly," says Davidson.

VCSO DUI saturation patrols are supported by grant funding from the Florida Department of Transportation.
