VCSO Receives Yearly Endowment For Training & Education

Daytona Beach, FL - A local businessman has made a noteworthy endowment to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and was recognized by the department on Wednesday.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the funds from L. Gale Lemerand for training and education is "an extraordinary gift and the training made possible from the funds will make us an even stronger agency." The Gale Lemerand Education and Training Endowment Fund will provide $30,000 per year over the next five years to fund programs for deputies in the department. Gale Lemerand is a longtime Daytona Beach resident and has made major contributions towards education in the area. His name is on buildings at Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona State College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Florida.
