Ormond Beach, FL - An Ormond Beach woman is in jail after she allegedly threw a steak knife at her boyfriend while he was holding a 1-year-old boy in his arms. 39-year-old Amy M. Easter was arrested around 7:30 PM Tuesday after deputies were dispatched to her house on Maria Street to break up a physical fight with her live-in boyfriend of 20 years. The 42-year-old boyfriend told deputies that Easter had become intoxicated earlier that night and was belligerent and verbal towards him, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office report. While the boyfriend was holding the baby in his arms, Easter threw a large toy at him which caused a "large" cut on his left forearm, per the report. Investigators think Easter then went into the kitchen and got a steak knife, telling her boyfriend she would cut herself and tell police that he had hurt her. She then allegedly threw the steak knife across the kitchen counter at him, striking him in the lower left abdomen, according to deputies. The 1-year-old was in his arms the entire time but was not injured, per the report. Easter's boyfriend was treated on scene by paramedics. When questioned by deputies, Easter showed deputies a “small red laceration” on the right side of her chest, then said that she was 28 weeks pregnant and was tired of her boyfriend abusing her and calling her names, per the report. Deputies noted in the report that Easter was “obviously intoxicated” and that the strong odor of alcohol was on her breath. Easter has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and child abuse. She's held on $5,000 bond at Volusia County Jail as of 4 PM Wednesday. A report on this incident was filed with the Florida Department of Children & Families, according to VCSO. The baby's exact relationship to Easter and her boyfriend was redacted from the report.
