VCSO Hosting MSD Shooting Presentation

Daytona Beach, FL - Members of Volusia County's law enforcement community will be able to view a presentation regarding what went wrong during a high school shooting.

That begins tomorrow morning (March 22nd) and it's being hosted by Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, who was invited by Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood.

Sheriff Gualtieri was appointed by former Governor Rick Scott to lead the State of Florida's investigative commission on the shooting that took place last Valentine's Day (February 14th, 2018) at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

"(Sheriff Gualtieri) put together an extensive report and powerpoint that documents the failures and what we can do to prevent another tragic mass shooting," said Sheriff Chitwood.

Sheriff Chitwood said that the presentation will be beneficial to his School Resource Officers, command staff and the other law enforcement agencies around Volusia County.

According to Chitwood, some schools have brushed off Sheriff Gualtieri's report,

"They're just kind of schlupping this report off like 'this is a one time thing it'll never happen here,'" said Sheriff Chitwood. "As we all know, there is no such place in America that's called 'It'll Never Happen Here.'"

The presentation begins at 10 a.m. at the VCSO Stephen Saboda Training Facility found off Tiger Bay Road in Daytona Beach.
