VCSO Deputy Cleared By FDLE In Fatal Shooting

Daytona Beach, FL - A Volusia County deputy involved in a fatal shooting earlier this year has been cleared by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Brandon Watson gets the green light from the state after his involvement in the death of 29-year-old Emmanuel Alquisiras (left) last August at an apartment building on U.S. 17 in Seville.

The deputy shot and killed Alquisiras while investigating a domestic violence report between him and his wife.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood backed Watson "100%" afterward, saying that the deputy shot Alquisiras after he grabbed Watson's Taser while the two men were locked in a physical struggle.

Chitwood also promised an "improvement" in deputy response times after questions arose about how long it took for backup to respond on that night.

An autopsy report following the incident showed Alquisiras had at least seven bullet wounds in his right arm, torso and abdomen, along with cocaine and a blood alcohol content of 0.19, well over the legal limit of 0.08 for drivers in the State of Florida.
