VCSO: Couple Shot Inside Their New Deltona Rental During Targeted Break-In

Posted

Deltona, FL - A couple who had just moved into their rented Deltona home a month ago were shot on Thursday afternoon during an apparent home invasion.

Deputies got the call at around 2:38 PM on October 26, and when they got on scene they were told by the couple that two men got into the home, at 1424 Hayward Ave., through a back sliding door. The suspects spoke with the couple and asked where someone named Javier was. Both the husband and wife told the suspects they didn't know who that was or where they could be found. The suspects then shot the man in the leg and the woman in the arm before fleeing in an unknown vehicle.

The victims were rushed to Central Florida Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. By late Thursday they were listed in stable condition.

Officials say it's not clear at this point whether the suspects forced their way inside the home. Detectives are still trying to figure out a motive, but the investigation so far suggests that this wasn't a random break-in, but rather a targeted crime.

The couple's children were at school during the shooting.

The investigation is still ongoing and no other details have been released at this time. Officials say more information will be provided when it becomes available.
