Deltona, FL – A Deltona High School student is facing a felony charge after he made a false weapons threat during his class on Friday.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), the 15-year-old male student stood up and told his English class to “shut up or I’m pulling out my arm cannon.” The incident was reported to the school resource deputy and the student was subsequently arrested at 2:31 PM and charged with making a false report concerning the use of a firearm.

The student’s backpack was searched, and no weapons were found. He said that it was a joke and a reference to a video game character. The VCSO and school officials maintain that there is a zero-tolerance policy for these threats of violence. The VCSO warns students that making threats about bombs, guns, or other weapons or acts of violence can result in criminal charges.

The 15-year-old was the second Deltona High School student to be arrested for making a threat against the school this week. On Thursday, a 16-year-old said he had a gun in his backpack. You can read more about that story here.

The VCSO also arrested several other Volusia County students for threats of violence following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL. A 14-year-old Heritage Middle School student was arrested last Friday after he threatened to blow up and shoot up his class. You can read more about that story here.

A 13-year-old student at Taylor Middle-High School was arrested by the VCSO on Tuesday after he threated the school with a destructive device after others reported he said he may bring a gun to school to shoot people.
