Deltona, FL - Update: The 58-year-old man who was killed during this deputy-involved shooting is Daniel A. Donarski. The deputy involved is Shawn Adkins, 25, hire date: Oct. 5, 2015. Earlier Reporting: A man armed with a shotgun was shot and killed by a Volusia County sheriff’s deputy Thursday night, March 16, in Deltona. The deceased, a 58-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene at 716 Teather Ave.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO), deputies responded to the home after a 6:38 PM call from a woman who said the man was off his usual medications and having a breakdown. “It’s not good,” she told a Sheriff’s Office dispatcher. "He's cussing up a storm and he punched some holes in the wall.” She said she didn’t believe the man was armed, but there were weapons in the house. The VCSO reports that the first deputy arrived on scene around 6:50 PM. About 7 minutes later, the man emerged from the front door of the house and pointed a shotgun in the direction of a deputy, who then fired his weapon. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded to investigate, which is standard procedure in deputy-involved shootings. The deputy involved is being placed on temporary paid leave, also standard, the VCSO said. The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of his family.
