VCSD And VUE At An Impasse - Again

Deland, FL- The end result on Friday was the same as it's been since April.  Volusia School District negotiators and representatives of Volusia United Educators met for another session.  The district added a $350 bonus to the last offer of an average raise of 2% made on August 17th. VUE declined the offer for the eighth time since April of this year. Members of VUE "worked the contract" during the week leading up to Friday's negotiations. In an effort to show solidarity, members of VUE were asked to wear a specific color each day during the week.  VUE President Andrew Spar, on his Facebook page, is asking members of the union, parents, and members of the community to email school board members. School District Director of Communication for the school district, Kelly Schulz, quoted district negotiating team member and elementary school principal Cristina Raimundo, "It appears that the union is not prepared to compromise or reach a solution." Proposals exchanged by the school district and each union will continue to be available on the district’s website.
