Wilkerson 72016

Daytona Beach, FL-Ebony Wilkerson was taken out of a courtroom today and committed to DCF to a state hospital. Wilkerson drove a van into the ocean with three children inside in it in 2014. She was found not guilty by reason of insanity when tried on child abuse charges for the crime.

In committing her today, Judge Leah Case said that Wilkerson is "manifestly dangerous to herself and others." The Judge also said that Wilkerson had been deceitful about taking her medication and does not believe she has a mental illness.

Wilkerson was at the point of being allowed to see her children when she stopped taking her medication and had her conditional release revoked. Her husband, Lufton Ronjon, took the stand today, telling the judge that being away from her children has not helped Wilkerson stay well.

Earlier reporting: Ebony Wilkerson, who drove a van into the ocean in 2014 with three children inside, is back in court Friday.  She's been in jail since June 8 after a judge revoked her conditional release. Wilkerson and her husband Lufton Ronjon, will find out whether the judge will send her back to a psychiatric hospital.

Wilkerson stopped taking her medication in May while staying at Lake Wales Care Center. She suffered a psychotic episode as a result.

Prosecutors have filed a motion to have Wilkerson sent back to a psychiatric hospital.
