Two People Hurt After Plane Crashes Into Daytona Homes

Daytona Beach, FL - Two people are taken to Halifax Health Medical Center with minor injuries after a small plane crashes into two Tuscany Chase subdivision homes and then falls into a retention pond.

First responders with the Daytona Beach Fire Department were called out this afternoon to those homes on Campanello Court, located just off Strickland Range Road near Robert Strickland Park.

DBFD spokesperson Sasha Staton says it looks like the plane - whose make and model are unknown at this time - went down while flying through a heavy storm after getting caught up in a microburst.

"The occupants were able to exit the aircraft on their own and make their way to the side of the pond," Staton added. "Both occupants of the plane were alert and talking while firefighters were assessing them."

According to Daytona Beach police, the injured - 34-year-old Lee Namoon of Daytona Beach and 35-year-old Patrick Halpin of Oviedo -  were both on board the plane. Namoon is a student at Daytona-based ATP Flight School, while Halpin is an instructor.

It's unclear at this time which one was piloting the aircraft at the time of the crash, according to the incident report.

No injuries were reported to anyone inside either home, but Namoon did suffer bruises and cuts from the landing, while Halpin needed stitches for cuts to his face. He also had smaller cuts to his arms and legs, per the report.

One home - 108 Campanello - sustained minor damage to the exterior, while the other - 112 Campanello - now has a large hole in the roof as well as damage to the fencing.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating the crash.
