DeLand, FL - Two juvenile suspects are charged and three more arrests of known suspects are pending relating to a drive-by shooting on October 23 near DeLand. The Volusia Sheriff's Office arrested 17-year-old Keyonta Alexander and another 17-year-old at DeLand High School on Wednesday (November 6) afternoon. Both teens are on the football team there.
The incident took place around 8:20 p.m., in the 900 block of Gayle Drive. The victims reported several shots were fired at their truck from a passing car. No one was injured in the shooting, which happened after a verbal altercation at Gator's Dockside DeLand. The suspects were identified through surveillance camera video footage.
The three known suspects are 19-year-old Jake Ross, who is the suspected shooter, 19-year-old Devaughn Robinson, and 18-year-old Charles Montgomery. One of the teens already arrested, Alexander, is charged with two counts of principal to attempted first-degree murder and two counts of principal to aggravated assault with a firearm. Robinson and Montgomery will face those same charges. The other 17-year-old is charged with providing false information to law enforcement because, during an interview with detectives, he denied knowing any of the teens involved in the shooting. Ross, the suspected shooter, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault. Deputies are actively attempting to locate Ross, Robinson, and Montgomery, who are urged to turn themselves in.
The additional arrests and charges are anticipated in the near future, according to VCSO. Anyone with information on the three suspects still at-large is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.
