Port Orange, FL – Volusia County School officials say an intoxicated man was able to walk around the halls of Spruce Creek High School before being arrested by the School Resource Officer last Friday (September 27).

Video of the incident can be seen here.

The man, identified as 51-year-old Derek Marlowe of Daytona Beach. He was taken into custody by Volusia County deputies and charged with trespassing on school grounds, campus disruption, and disorderly conduct.

The School District is reviewing the multiple lapses in campus security that allowed Marlowe to trespass on school grounds and enter a classroom while class was in session. The school resource deputy responded immediately when he was alerted of Marlowe’s presence in the school.

Interim School Superintendent Tim Egnor is holding a press conference tomorrow to address the incident.
