Volusia County, FL - May is National Mental Awareness Month and today(May 6) is Children's Mental Health Awareness Day. Amy Hall, Coordinator of Student & Government Relations for Volusia County Schools says the day's purpose is to raise awareness of community-based mental health services for children, youth, young adults, and their families.

A Mental Health Symposium will be hosted at Spruce Creek High School this afternoon (May 6) beginning at 5:30 p.m. Hall said this is a way of getting the conversation started as community providers, mental health professionals, and school personnel will be on hand to provide valuable information concerning mental awareness.

To observe the day, VCS staff, students and employees will wear green. The community partners will also go green for mental wellness with Daytona One turning their fountain green and Daytona International Speedway will turn their sign green to show support.
