DeLand, FL - An early morning traffic stop in DeLand on a stolen vehicle turned police chase ends with an 18-wheeler overturning and three men being arrested.

DeLand Police officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a four door grey Toyota Corolla around 4 a.m. for a traffic violation. The driver failed to stop for the officers, fleeing the area at a high rate of speed northbound on Woodland Boulevard from Plymouth Avenue toward International Speedway Boulevard.

The driver turned west on International Speedway Boulevard. Florida Highway Patrol reports that a T.G. Lee semi truck traveling southbound on Spring Garden Avenue was hit at the International Speedway Boulevard when the driver of the stolen vehicle ran the red light and broadsided the truck, causing it to overturn.

DeLand Police say that two of the three men in the Toyota fled on foot. They were later apprehended with the assistance of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit. The third man was arrested at the scene. All three were transported to AdventHealth DeLand for the injuries suffered in the wreck.

The Toyota Corolla was reported stolen on July 6 from the Orlando area. More information will be released as it becomes available.
