Volusia County, FL - Monday's high temperature in Daytona Beach was just shy of the record high for the day - and that comes in the midst of a December that's been warmer and drier than usual.

December 12's high in Daytona Beach was 81 - only 2 degrees shy of the record high for that date. That 81-degree mark is also about 10 degrees above whats average for the date. Tuesdays expected to be in the 80s too, continuing into Wednesday. "Then it looks like another front's gonna go through and knock us down, maybe close to normal temperatures for a few days," said Senior Forecaster Randy Lascody at the National Weather Service in Melbourne, "and then it's going to warm up again for the weekend with highs around 80 again."

So far this month has been 2.5 degrees warmer than Decembers 62.3 degree average. In December of 2015 the average temperature was about 10 degrees above normal. There were only a few days in the entire month that were below normal. So while this month has been warmer than usual, it's nowhere near as bad as it was this time last year.

The dryness has also been noticeable. Last month was one of the driest on record, and so far this month rainfall has been well below average.
