Florida - Florida's primary election is coming up so it's time to register.

The primary will be held on August 30th, and Florida is a closed primary state, so to vote for a candidate in a partisan election you have to be registered in that candidate's party. The deadline to register and to change parties is August 1.

Overseas and Military ballots will be mailed on July 16. Domestic ballots will be mailed on July 26. The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot is August 24. Residents can request vote-by-mail ballots online at VolusiaElections.org, via email VolusiaElections@volusia.org, or by phone at (386) 254-4690.

Early voting is scheduled for the week of August 20 through August 27. Early voting will be held at several locations throughout the county:

- Supervisor of Elections Office, 125 W. New York Ave., DeLand

- Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave., Deltona

- City Island Library, 105 E Magnolia Ave., Daytona Beach

- Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St., Ormond Beach

- New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Freeway, New Smyrna Beach

Sample ballots will be mailed out beginning on August 12 - that's for voters who haven't requested vote-by-mail ballots.

An Election Preparedness Guide is available to get voters "election ready." It can be found in the News Journal and will be distributed via USPS beginning mid-July.

The upcoming election will include primaries for federal and state offices along with several local offices including:

- School Board

- Judges

- County Chair

- County Council District 4

- Sheriff

- Property Appraiser

- Supervisor of Elections

- Municipal

- Constitutional Amendment Number 4: Solar devices or renewable energy source devices; exemption from certain taxation and assessment
