Daytona Beach, FL - A wanted fugitive from Texas being hunted by federal authorities is arrested in downtown Daytona Beach.

The Daytona Beach Police Department caught 38-year-old Jason A. Gibson around 5 p.m. today (November 27th) near the corner of South Palmetto Avenue and West International Speedway Boulevard.

According to Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri, Gibson had a warrant for his arrest in Texas for homicide as well as a kidnapping charge in New Mexico.

DBPD coordinated with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office as well as a number of Texas law enforcement agencies and the United States Marshals.

DBPD spokesperson Lyda Longa says Gibson crashed into two police vehicles - once from VCSO and another from the Holly Hill Police Department - while trying to get away.

"Gibson was spotted by a U.S. Marshal as he headed south on South Ridgewood Avenue," Longa added. "Several officers then converged on Gibson in order to aid the U.S. Marshal."

The drivers of both those police vehicles weren't hurt, per Longa.

Following the crash, Gibson got out of the vehicle he was in and ran into the garage of a nearby office building, which is where he was arrested.

Besides his out-of-state charges, Gibson also faces two counts of aggravated assault.
