Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach police (DBPD) are investigating after an SUV struck a 15-year-old pedestrian attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Nova Road just north of Madison Ave.

At around 8:45 PM on Saturday, Daytona Beach Police Motors officers responded to the scene. Police learned that 26-year-old Ciera Parris was driving a 2008 Volkswagen SUV north on Nova road when she struck the teen. Further investigation revealed the teen had been riding on the handlebars of a bicycle while traveling across the southbound lanes of Nova Road.

The bicycle had no lights and a van driving southbound on Nova Road swerved to avoid hitting the bicyclist and the teen. When the van blew the horn, the bicyclist slammed on the brakes causing the teen to be thrown from the handlebars. The teen was struck by Parris after he got up and began running across Nova Road. He landed on the median that separates the northbound and southbound lanes.

The teen was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center where he was listed as being in critical condition. At this time, the crash is still under investigation.
