Pierson, FL - A 13-year-old Taylor Middle-High School student was arrested on Tuesday after several students reported hearing him say he was going to bring a gun to school and shoot people.
The DeLeon Springs boy was arrested at 2:21 PM on February 20 and is facing a felony charge of threatening to discharge a destructive device. According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, the boy told a school resource deputy that he's been bullied and that he might bring a gun to school someday.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, VCSO deputies were sent to Pine Ridge High School in Deltona after a .22-caliber bullet was found in the boys' weightlifting locker room bathroom. Officials say they still don't know where the ammo came from. This was the second time that ammunition has been found at Pine Ridge High. On Thursday, February 15, two bullets were found stuck between mats in the weight room, but no weapon was found.
Officials say that three Volusia County students have been arrested in school-related incidents since last week's mass shooting at a South Florida high school.
Also on Tuesday, a DeLand High School student was arrested on a charge of disrupting a school function after he showed up at school with a pink cell phone case that looked like a gun (for more on that story, click here).
Additionally, a 14-year-old Heritage Middle School student was arrested on Friday for threatening to blow up and shoot up his classroom. He's facing a felony charge of making a false report of a bomb and disrupting a school function.
A 20-year-old Mainland High School student was Baker Acted on Thursday after he threated violence against the school (for details, click here).
Sheriff Mike Chitwood said VCSO will continue to investigate all reported threats. He also said that jokes and false threats will not be tolerated. Anyone who sees something suspicious that might indicate potential violence should call the Sheriff's Office at 911 in an emergency. The non-emergency phone number for VCSO is 386-248-1777.
