'Suspicious' Fire Breaks Out At Vacant Putnam Hotel In DeLand

DeLand, FL - Officials are investigating after what they're calling a "suspicious" fire broke out at the vacant Putnam Hotel in DeLand on Sunday night.

Firefighters were called to the Putnam Hotel, 225 W. New York Ave., at around 8:58 PM when a witness reported seeing flames coming from the building. When firefighters got to the scene, flames were already on the top floors of the structure. The blaze was brought under control and extinguished overnight. No injuries were reported.

The origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation. DeLand Fire Chief Daniel Hanes says that because the building is vacant, the fire is being referred to as "suspicious" until they have more information.

Video of the fire can be seen here.
