Daytona Beach Shores, FL - Deputies are looking to find whoever sexually battered a 68-year-old woman on the beach in Daytona Beach Shores early yesterday morning (August 31st).

It happened between 5:30 and 6 a.m. Friday somewhere between Dunlawton Avenue and the El Portal beach approach, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

VCSO spokesperson Andrew Gant tells us the victim was walking alone on the beach when she was struck on her face and knocked unconscious.

"When she awoke, she realized her clothes were missing from the waist down," Gant added. "She went to the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety to report the incident and was subsequently transported to Halifax Health Medical Center of Port Orange for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries."

A medical exam done afterward showed evidence that she was sexually battered, per Gant.

"Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue requested Sheriff’s Office assistance in the investigation," Gant noted. "VCSO detectives are continuing to actively work the case."

No other details have been released by VCSO at this point.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS or through the P3Tips app available on the Crime Stoppers website. Tipsters can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
