Daytona Beach, FL - Investigators are searching for a black man who reportedly carjacked a vehicle with a sleeping child in the backseat.

The incident happened around 8:45 AM Monday at a residence on the 800 block of White Court, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Officers say the girl's mother drove up to the residence and got out of the car with the engine still running to pick up another child to take to school.

That's when the suspect - described as a black man in his early 20's with a short mohawk haircut and gold teeth - approached the vehicle, jumped into the driver's seat and took off.

DBPD believes the 12-year-old girl in the backseat awoke while the suspect was driving away, leading him to run away on foot through the Eagle Park Apartments after abandoning the vehicle on Vine Street.

No injuries were reported and officers were unable to find the suspect despite a search with air and K-9 units.

The suspect was wearing a black T-shirt, capri jeans and black tennis shoes at the time he stole the car, according to DBPD.
