Daytona Beach, FL - A man's desire to hurt or kill himself turns into a major traffic mess on Interstate 95 in Daytona Beach. Authorities closed both directions near the Bellevue Avenue overpass during rush hour last night after a shirtless man clad in pants threatened to jump from the bridge onto the highway below. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Daytona Beach Police Department and other first responders got to the scene around 5:45 p.m. and eventually took that man off the bridge and into custody.
The road eventually reopened just before 7:30 p.m., according to VCSO. At least 2 miles' worth of backups were recorded at one point on I-95 by FL511.com in both directions.
Significant delays were also noted on Interstate 4, which intersects with I-95 and U.S. 92 near the Bellevue Avenue I-95 overpass.
