Daytona Beach, FL - A Daytona Beach man is arrested after the Volusia County Sheriff's Office finds him with a stolen car and heroin.
According to VCSO, they were called to a 2nd Avenue residence in DeLand around seven o'clock last night (August 12th) with reports of a vehicle that was stolen from the home.
Deputies met with the wife of the car's owner who said his vehicle went missing. She said she came home the night before and remembered seeing her husband's car, a 2014 Dodge Challenger, sitting in the grass next to their driveway, where it's usually parked.
She left for work the morning of the 12th and didn't remember if the vehicle was there or missing. When she got home that day, around 5 p.m., she saw that the vehicle was missing. According to her narrative, her husband is a truck driver stationed out of North Carolina and hasn't been home since July 19th.
The wife also said no one else uses the vehicle except him, and no one else has permission to use it. Deputies called her husband, who confirmed all of the information his wife gave to deputies.
Then, earlier this morning (August 13th), deputies got a call close to 4:30 about a suspicious vehicle that was parked at a Motel 6 off of West International Speedway Boulevard.
An anonymous caller had apparently called VCSO to report the vehicle. They said a black Dodge Challenger with a flat tire pulled into the parking lot and three black males were seen walking around, checking other vehicles in the parking lot. Another report indicated that the three males exited the vehicle with guns.
Upon arrival, a deputy drove to the rear of the property and observed the Challenger parked with a male sitting in the driver's seat with the door open.
The deputy left his vehicle and approached the Challenger, where he made contact with the three males, including 22-year-old Michael Jackson, who was sitting in the driver's seat.
According to the report, the deputy asked what was going on and Jackson told him that the car had a flat tire and they were waiting on a ride. He then asked if the vehicle belonged to him and Jackson said it was his friend's.
The deputy asked what his friend's name was and Jackson said he didn't know. At that point, due to his answers and the initial reports of firearms being involved, the deputy secured Jackson in handcuffs.
While holding onto Jackson, he walked to the rear of the vehicle and ran the vehicle's tag, which was reported stolen. Around that time, two other deputies arrived on the scene and placed the two other males in handcuffs.
Upon searching Jackson, the deputy located a small bag which contained several pieces of a brown substance, which was believed to be heroin. The deputy tested the substance and confirmed the narcotic substance.
When asked, both defendants said they didn't know anything about the vehicle being reported stolen.
Jackson is now in custody at Volusia County Jail, charged with grand theft and possession of heroin. He's held on a $2,000 bond.
VCSO has mentioned if they plan to investigate the two other men found with the car.
