DeLand, FL - The home of the Hatters is being recognized as one of the leading colleges in the nation.

The Princeton Review listed Stetson University among 383 other colleges in the 2019 edition of "The Best 384 Colleges," an honor given to only 15% of America's four-year institutions. This year is Stetson's fourth mention in a row.

"The Best 384 Colleges" - published annually since 1992 - contains the detailed profiles of each college, including student surveys and rating scores in eight categories. Among them are academics, admissions selectivity and financial aid.

The Princeton Review does not rank colleges sequentially. Instead, it uses student ratings to compile 62 ranking lists of the top 20 colleges in the book in various categories. 138,000 students (359 per campus on average) are used for the basis of Princeton Review's rankings.

In its mention, Stetson was praised by the Princeton Review for its academics and campus life, saying "very important factors considered include rigor of secondary school record and academic GPA."

Among the student comments regarding academics, Stetson professors are "very personable and extremely helpful" and act as students' "biggest cheerleaders."

Also mentioned was Stetson's diversity with students, describing it as an "abundance of culture radiating through our campus."

“What sets Stetson apart is its focus on helping students grow intellectually and honing their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills while continuing to respect our liberal arts tradition,” said Stetson University President Wendy B. Libby. “Advancing education and creating opportunities for students in both education and the workforce are key factors in Stetson’s growth and success. I am always pleased to see others recognize our innovation and the hard work of our students, faculty and staff.”

Stetson was also mentioned on the Princeton Review's website feature "2019 Best Colleges: Region by Region - Northeast/Midwest/Southeast/West" which looks at 658 schools (all U.S. based schools) as outstanding in their region.
