Worker At State Park Charged With Having Child Porn

Orange City, FL - A man who works at Blue Spring State Park is held on a $1 million bond at Volusia County Jail after authorities say he had child pornography in his home.

43-year-old Richard Darby's arrest yesterday came nearly two weeks after the Volusia County Sheriff's Office raided his East French Avenue home in Orange City.

VCSO spokesperson Laura Williams says Darby's facing 20 counts of child porn based on that search warrant.

"Detectives located images of male and female children as young as 1 to 3 years old, along with adult men and women, portrayed in sexually explicit situations," Williams added. "More charges are pending as detectives search for any additional potential victims of sexual exploitation."

Darby caught the attention of VCSO's Child Exploitation Unit based on a tip in late May from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to VCSO's Andrew Gant.

"Detectives have discovered material that appears to be child pornography that Darby produced himself," Gant noted. "Sheriff’s detectives have reason to believe there may be child victims who live in the Volusia County/Central Florida area or beyond."

Darby worked in the park as a manager for a third party contracted by the state to manage concessions and tube rentals, something Sheriff Mike Chitwood told the media was "perfect cover" for a pedophile.

Investigators are asking anyone with more information on Darby to call VCSO's Child Exploitation Unit at 386-323-3574.
