New Smyrna Beach, FL - Seven New Smyrna Beach teenagers - including three who are underage - are now facing charges from law enforcement for attacking a man near a city park over a month ago.

Six of the suspects have been arrested in that February 26th incident on Canal Street north of Myrtle Avenue Park, according to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department.

The seventh - 18-year-old Deran Maddox - remains at-large, according to NSBPD Lieutenant Shane Riggle.

"The 20-year-old victim was walking northbound on North Myrtle Ave with friends when he was approached by the seven suspects," Riggle noted. "The suspects immediately began kicking and punching the victim until he fell to the ground."

Detectives believe several of the suspects were raiding the victim's pockets during the attack, trying to grab anything inside.

"The suspects were successful in stealing the victim’s electronic cigarette before leaving the area," Riggle stated.

The exact motive for the attack isn't clear at this point since NSBPD hasn't released the arrest reports, but Riggle says the agency did pair up with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Team to arrest five of the suspects on Tuesday (April 2nd) once arrest warrants were obtained.

"One turn[ed] himself in a short time later," Riggle added. "Maddox has not been located."

Two of the arrested - 19-year-old Nassan Bacon and 18-year-old Davion Thompson - have already bonded out of Volusia County Jail on charges of robbery without a weapon and battery.

The other adult involved - 19-year-old Devin Marshall - remains behind bars on the same charges.

Bacon was additionally charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The others arrested - a 17-year-old, 16-year-old and 15-year-old - are not being named by WNDB News due to being underage, but they are also facing the same charges. So is Maddox once he's caught.

NSBPD is asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call Investigator Cornelisse at 386-424-2249 or Crime Stoppers at 888-277-8477 to remain anonymous and possibly qualify for a cash reward.
