Deland, FL- Deland public works crews spotted a sinkhole on the Stetson University campus on Monday.  Stetson spokesperson Janie Graziano said the university was notified by the city. Staff immediately put up a safety barrier and warned students and employees to stay away from the area.

Engineers with the city and a geotechnical engineer contacted by Stetson evaluated the area.  They determined that it is a sinkhole, and it measures approximately 25 feet by 18 feet at the surface and roughly 8-10 feet deep.

Stetson will monitor the sinkhole for 48 hours and if it stabilizes it could be filled at that time.
