Daytona Beach, FL - A man was wounded when shots were fired in Joe Harris Park near Bethune-Cookman University.

B-CU security called DBPD for backup around 12:17 AM on Sunday morning in reference to shots being fired near Joe Harris Park at 315 Pear St. Police made contact with the victim, Nathan Cogmon, shortly after he got to Halifax Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to the hand.

Cogman told detectives he didn't see anything out of the ordinary when he and his friends heard gunshots and took off running. A stray bullet hit him in the hand and his friends drove him to the hospital. According to the police report, none of Cogman's friends were cooperative witnesses and they didn't provide any useful information.

B-CU security allowed detectives to search the dormitory for witnesses, and two women said they saw a black man in a red shirt driving a silver Hyundai away from the scene of the crime after the shooting, but they didn't see him with a gun or have any reason to suspect he was the shooter.

According to police, they've found no cooperative witnesses, they have no suspect, and they haven't gotten a description of a suspect.

Several spent .357 caliber bullet casings were found on the street in the 500 block of McLeod Blvd.

B-CU has issued a mandatory 9 PM curfew for the park. "We want our students to be cautious when they're not on campus, whether it's in our surrounding community, the city itself, or anywhere else," said Keisha M. Boyd, Director of Communications for the university. "We definitely want to stress and always stress to them to be cautious when they're out and about."
