Sexual Battery Fugitive Captured

Beverly Beach, FL - A months long investigation by the Flagler County Sheriff's Major Case Unit (MCU) into a sexual battery case is the reason 72-year-old Larry Cavallaro is sitting in the Orange County Jail, waiting for extradition to Flagler County.

The incident took place on December 17, 2017. Two women went by Cavallaro's place for a drink after they got off of work. One of the victim's said that Cavallaro called the drinks he poured from a V-8 container his homemade Rum Runners. The victim stated that after one drink, she fell down. The next thing she woke to was Cavallaro performing a sex act on her.

When the victim did not come home after her shift, her husband tried contacting her. He drove around and saw the victim's car at Cavallaro's. The husband found the back door open, went inside and found Cavallaro in bed with his wife. The husband said that at first he thought his wife was cheating on him but then realized she was extremely intoxicated.

The husband took the victim to the Family Life Center in Bunnell to get checked out using a rape kit. The victim then identified Cavallaro out of a photo lineup as the man who had performed the sex act on her.

The couple contacted FCSO on January 3, 2018 and provided a video recorded statement about the incident. The woman that was with the victim at Cavallaro's home made a video recorded statement the next day, corroborating the victim's story. She also identified Cavallaro in a photo lineup as the man who served she and the victim drinks. She said she passed out and the next time she was aware was when she was in her own home.

As part of the investigation, MCU had the victim make a controlled call on January 17, 2018 to discuss that night, during which time, Cavallaro did not deny what had happened. On January 25, detectives made contact with Cavallaro for an interview but no action was taken at that time.

It's unknown why it took until yesterday (June 7) to get an arrest warrant. The initial bond on the warrant is set at None. Cavallaro was arrested in Winter Park by Orange County deputies. He's awaiting extradition to Flagler County.
