Volusia County, FL - Saturday SunRail service is set to kick off this weekend.

The Saturday, November 5 service is expected to bolster attendance at the Orlando Magic game and other events including festivals in downtown Orlando.

SunRail is working with local partners to find the best times to run Saturday service - a privately funded initiative.

David Porter, who writes the SunRailriders.com blog here, says the Saturday service is welcome but points out that service doesn't start until the afternoon Saturday and, on weekdays, there are gaps of up to two and a half hours between trains. Porter says, if SunRail is to succeed as a commuter service, it has got to get past what he calls the "clunky" schedule. The blog is not affiliated with SunRail.

Porter says since FDOT which runs SunRail doesn't have the money to run Saturday service the private funders of this limited service are tied directly to specific events and he says, "If there are other things along the route that you want to do and use the train for that too but it's mainly for specific events that are happening and most of those events are going to be in downtown Orlando."
