Volusia County, FL-Vehicle owners in Ormond Beach, Palm Coast and other communities are being asked to remove valuables from their vehicles and lock them. Officer Keith Walker, Ormond Beach Police Department, said vehicle owners are making it too easy for criminals.

Walker said once the the thieves get into your car, they can also get into your home and steal other things. He said that during the month of April, 40 vehicles had been broken into and nine vehicles were stolen. Patrols have been increased but Walker said that residents need to remove the opportunities for the criminals.

Deputies in Flagler County have also been dealing with a rash of vehicle burglaries in Palm Coast.  Many were unlocked vehicles with valuable items left in plain sight. Ten vehicle burglaries have been reported in Palm Coast in recent days.

Anyone noticing suspicious activity should notify the police immediately. If you'd like more information on how to prevent these and other types of crimes, contact the Ormond Beach Police Department’s Community Outreach Unit at 676-3526 or 676-3553.
