Pregnant Woman Accused Of Using A Knife To Attack Neighbor In Daytona

Daytona Beach, FL - A pregnant Daytona Beach woman is arrested on Wednesday for allegedly attacking her neighbor with a knife while the neighbor was carrying a baby. Volusia County Sheriff's Office found a pregnant 24-year-old Brittany Brooks covered in blood in a car outside of Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach on May 25. Her boyfriend, 26-year-old Shawn Reynolds, had flagged down a deputy and said that he and Brooks had been fighting with a group of their neighbors on Bishop Butts Circle. Deputies say they did not see any injuries on Brooks consistent with the amount of blood they saw on her. Brooks was treated by medical staff, and Reynolds, who had an abrasion to his lip, declined treatment. According to arrest reports, Reynolds had given Brooks a pocket knife for self-defense before their fight with neighbors. Witnesses say that during the fight, Brooks allegedly slashed at a female neighbor with a knife. The attack reportedly caused the neighbor to drop the baby she was holding in her hands, and a witness grabbed the baby and brought it to safety. Brooks originally told deputies that she knew nothing about a knife being used in the fight, but then she changed her story and said she only used the knife in self-defense. Deputies say Reynolds punched the same woman Brooks attacked with the knife, likely causing "permanent disfigurement." Reynolds was charged with aggravated battery and simple battery. He was also on probation for a prior fleeing and eluding charge. He was taken into custody on May 25. VCSO says that because Brooks was about six or seven months pregnant at the time of the incident, a charging affidavit was filed with the State Attorney's Office, and she was booked into the Volusia County Jail on Wednesday and charged with aggravated battery.
