Volusia County, FL- The Florida Department of Health is investigating a possible non-travel related case of Zika virus in Miami-Dade County. An epidemiological investigation is being conducted by the FDOH. They are also collaborating with the Centers for Disease Control. Additional details will be shared as they become available.

Volusia County has two confirmed cases of Zika virus.  They are both travel-related.  There is a Zika Hotline if you'd like to get more information.  The number is 855-622-6735.

Residents and visitors are reminded that the best way to protect themselves is to prevent mosquito bites through practicing good drain and cover methods.

An important step is to drain standing water anywhere on your property. Discard items that could hold water and are not being used. Mosquitos that carry the Zika virus breed in standing water, especially in containers.

When you're outside, wear shoes, socks, long pants and long-sleeves. Repellent is also important and should be applied to skin and clothing.

Check screening in your house and make necessary repairs.
