Port Orange Woman Charged With Leaving Scene Of Accident That Hospitalized Teen

Port Orange, FL-Police in Port Orange have arrested 33-year-old Heather Leonard and charged her in an accident Sunday, July 24, that left a 16-year-old girl hospitalized with serious injuries. Leonard is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury. She told officers that she did not stop because she thought she had hit an animal. Leonard consented to have her vehicle searched.  Officers found what appeared to be a piece of tooth or bone from the driver's side upper windshield and what looked like Leonard consented to have her vehicle searched.  Officers found what appeared to be a piece of tooth or bone from the driver's side upper windshield and what looked like skin on the hood of the car. The accident happened at about 10 PM in the 3600 block of Nova Road.  Police say a tip from a Good Samaritan led to the suspect vehicle being located and the eventual arrest of Leonard. The police report shows that the tag on Leonard's vehicle is expired and the car is not insured. The teen remains hospitalized but her condition is stable. She suffered a broken arm, broken leg, broken jaw with several teeth destroyed, cuts and abrasions and bruised lungs.
